Gen. Char. Calyx obsolete. Petals obcordate, with
a broad, indexed, obtuse point. Fruit oblong,
laterally compressed. Carpels with 5 equal filiform
ridges, the two lateral ones marginal ; interstices
flat, broad, with 1 or 3 vittæ; commissure
with 2 or 4 vittæ ; column free, bifid.
Spec. Char. General and partial involucrums of numerous
linear-lanceolate leaves. Carpels oblong,
obtuse, crowned with the elongated reflexed
styles ; interstices with single vittæ.

B. Jlexuosum as probably to have been frequently overlooked
as a luxuriant form of that common species, still it
is peculiarly difficult to point out any character by which it
