tapering towards the base, very pale and waxy. Lid hemispherical,
pointed, very pale, with a narrow red border
surmounting the annulus.
This moss bears a very close resemblance in general
character to B. nutans, of which it may have been regarded
as a small variety ; but the foliage in that species is larger,
more lax and more deeply coloured, and it is never found
with gemmiparous barren shoots, like those which so peculiarly
mark the species now under consideration. From
B. carnemn it differs essentially in the form of the capsule,
and in the greater length of the fruit-stalk.— W . W.
