the free hand of Mr. Fomkyns, were prefented In -the moil friendly
manner to me by Mr. D a n ie l l . He painted the Malabars at
Tdnjore. Thefe mufl not be underflood to have been the fame
with the Malabars of the weftern coafl, fee vol. i. p. 178, a race
■differing greatly in manners and cuiloms. Thefe are a very difi-
-tirt£t people, and the fame as the inhabitants e f Mavilipuram.
