Slender, erect, 3-4 feet high.—Oidms and sheaths smooth. Leaves nai'row, flat, rough above. Spike 4-7
inches long, slender, erect. Dochis flexuous, very flat, edges cUiate, Spikekts mth awns *-} inch long, sessile,
solitary, twice as long as the internodes. Qtumes 0, or two rigid setæ, Morets two or three; upper often imperfect,
with the pedicel of a third at its base ; lower shortly pedicelled, secund, with a pedicel half as long as the upper
palea. Lcmer palea narrow, five-neiwed, rough with short hmrs, produced into a straight awn one-fourth to one-half
as long as itself. Scales ovate, entire or obliquely bilobed, ciliate. Ovary with a bristly peucü of hairs at the top.

membranaceæ: inferior uninervis, carinato-complicata; superior brevis v. 0, enervis, carinata. Squamulæ 0.
Caryopsis libera. Gramen rigidum; foliis distichis, canaliculatis; spica simpUci, racemosa, continua
; spiculis imbricatis.
A small, rigid, wiry, creeping Grass, with short leafy culms and a terminal spicate raceme.—Leaves distichous,
channeUed. SpiheUs one-flowered; fiower sessüe. Glume one, keeled, compressed, the margins connate, open
above. Paleæ two, membranous ; lower keeled, compressed, ovate-oblong, one-nerved ; upper short, nerveless, keeled,
or wanting. ScaUs 0. Caryopsis free. (Name in honour of Baron Charles de Zoys, a Carniolian ecclesiastic and
collector of plants.)

A curious little Grass, a native of New Zealand, AustrGia, InGa, and the Mauritius.—Cíí/ms woody below,
there creeping horizontaUy, sending downwards long wiry roots, and upwards short divided branches. 1-2 inche¡
long, that bear distichous, spreaGng, subulate, generally involute leaves. Upper part of culm naked, slender, 1 inch
long. Spike small, of four to six closely appressed. Imbricate, sesaUe or shortly pedicelled spikelets, arranged on a
flattened flexuous rachis.
