Leat-sheaths densely armed with straight, scattered, laminar, subulate, rather short,
setaceous spines. Lenes about 1 m. long; petiole 10-15 cm. long, flattish above,
prickly at the margins. Leajlets not very mimerons, rather remote, equidistant,
onsiform, the intermediate ones 35-40 cm. long, l-5-3'o cm. broad, with 3 cost®
-which are bi-istly above and naked beneath. Female spadit moro or loss supradecompound,
very long, flageUitorm, ivith very remote moncooious (always?) partial
inflorescences; spikelets of the lowor part of the inflorescences bearing female flowers
accompanied as usual by a neuter one, while the spikelots of the summit or some
of the secondary ones bear male flowers only; primary spathes elongate, strongly
clawed cldeily on the outer side. Mile ftwen obloa!», 4-5 mm. long. iruUm,
perianth shortly pedicolliform. Fndt broadly obovoid, very suddenly and
distinctly beaked, 11 mm. long, 8 mm. broad. Scales in 15-16 series faintly
channelled along the middle.

coucolorous, 3-sub-5-costulate, the costm quite devoid of either spines or bristles on both
surfaces ; the margins appressedly spinulose. Female spadix slender, very elongate
flagelliform; primaiy spathes narrow, elongate, deusely prickly near theii- summit;
partial inflorescences very elongate with many remote spikelets; secondaiy spathes
subulavate, 4-5 era. long, armed with small hooked prickles; spikelets spreading,
5-0-5 cm. long, spathels finely veined, subscabrid. Fruiiin/; perinn/h distinctly
pedicelliform. Fruil ovoid-elliptic, beaked, 12 mm. long, 8 mm. broad. Scales
in 18 series, not channelled along the middle, brownish with a narrow, very dark
margin. Seed broadly pitted.

Leaf-sheaths armed with subulate spines, which are very long near the moutli. Leaves
•7-1 m. long. Leaflets numerous, equidistnnt, liiiear-en&iform, the intermediate
ones 25-28 cm, long, 12-15 mm. broad, unicostate; the costa and ono
slender nerve on each side of it bristly spinulose above; beneath only the midcosta
furnished with a few long bristles. Spadices filiform and very long and excessively
slender. Male and female flowers horizontal, mm. apart. F-iiii small,
globose, 8-10 mm, in diam. Scales in 15 series, shining. Seed facetted.
