T H I S p r e t t y l i t t l e I x i a is q u i t e n ew t o our gardens, never having, as far as we can learn, been feen to
flower before this year. It is t h e raoft delicate in ihape and character of any w e have as y e t examined;
and as w e could not trace it as defcribed in any a u t h o r , we have given it t h e trivial n a m e it here bears.
T h e figure exhibits a l a r g e fpecimen of t h e whole plant, w h i c h is too weak to fupport itfelf although
t h e leaves are thick and (tiff. Our drawing was made in t h e mouth of April, from a plant in the
C l a p h am collection, w h e r e only it is to be found; the roots having been fent from the Cape of Good
H o p e in t h e autumn of the p r e c e d i n g year. It appears to flourilh with the treatment Mr. Allen has
(riven it, a dry fituation, planted in very fandy peat. From the c o n n e c t i o n of t h e root, w h i c h has a
h a r d fmooth i k i n , we t h o u l d be led to t h i n k its increafe will not b e very abundant.
