I N the year 17&Q, this fpecies of Protea was firft raifed from feeds; received at the Hammerfmith
nurfery from V i e n n a ; they having been collected for the Emperor's gardens a t Schoubrun, and from
t h e n c e tranfmitted to Mefi'rs. Lee and Kennedy. Many plants have fince been raifed, in different
c o l l e a i o n s ; and OUT p r e f e n t figure was made, from a fine fpeclmen, in the H i b b c r t i a n collection. It
is rather delicate when young, b u t not eafily deftroycd when grown to a foot in height. It will attain
t o five or fix feet, and makes a very pretty appearance, when in full flower. It may be propagated
by cuttings, but w i t h difficulty, and muft be planted in light yellow loam.
