T H E fpecies here figured of D o d o n x a is from N e w H o l l a n d ; where, Forfler fays he found i t , as we
h a v e given it, w i t h t h e chives and pointais diftincf; but, that t h e fame fpecies was h e r m a p h r o d i t e,
w h e n g r o w i n g in N e w Z e a l a n d , w h i c h may perhaps be t h e fact, though we fliould (ulpefit, from
fucli circ u rn [ l a n c e , they w e r e different fpecies. Martyn in his Ed. of Miller's Diet mentions this
p l a n t , and t h r o w s it to t h e broad-leaved fpecies found in t h e tropical climates of A m e r i c a and Afia.
W i l h l c n o w , in his Sp. P l a n t . T o m . 1 1 . P . I . p . 3-15, has m a d e it a fpecies, w i t h o u t any o b l e r v a t i o n on
i t s p a r t s of fructification : w h i c h leads us to fuppofe, he had not feen flowering fpecimens. It is as
h a r d y as a n y g r e e n h o u f e p l a n t w e polfefs, but will not refill the feverity of o u r froAs; is eafily propag
a t e d by c u t t i n g s , and thrives in almoft any e a r t h . It is fo very common in N e w Holland, that,
i c a r c e a parcel of feeds has arrived from t h e n c e , b u t has c o n t a i n e d i o m e of t h e feeds. T h e t w o figures
