T H I S fpecies of Everlafling Flower is very common near Cape T o w n ; yet, 'till the year J 8 0 0 , it has
never been introduced to Britain. Montague Burgoyne, Efq. of M a r k H a l l , Euex, was t h e firft to
procure feeds of it, and it has flowered with him, this year 1 8 0 2 . Our drawing was made in July,
b u t the flower latts near three m o n t h s ; it is t h e largeft of the genus w e have as y e t feen, and certainly
one of the moft beautiful. All the fpecies, from the Cape, are very liable to rot from damps, in the
w i n t e r ; they ibould be kept on an airy, dry Ihelf, as near t h e glafs as poflible, during the foggy
m o n t h s . They, in general, ripen feeds w i t h us, but are w i t h difficulty incrcafed by c u t t i n g s ; which
mould be made early in fpring, planted in pots of fand, and kept q u i t e dry for fome time after they
are p l a n t e d . The grown plants t h r i v e beft in a v e r y f a n d y peat earth.
