F R O M a p l a n t n o w in flower, May 1802, in t h e H i b b e r t i a n collection, o u r figure was t a k e n . It is one
of thofe defcribed by T h u n b e r g in his Differtatio de Protea, n. 1 1 , a n d in his Prodromus 25, under
t h e t i t l e we h a v e g i v e n i t ; and w h i c h is, c e r t a i n l y , very a p p r o p r i a t e ; although m a n y have t h e flowers
g r o w i n g in fpikes. We believe this is t h e firft time it has flowered in Britain, and t h a t , at prefent,
i t is very f c a r c e ; h a v i n g b e e n i n t r o d u c e d by Meflrs. Lee a n d K e n n e d y in the year if go. It is a h a r dy
greenhoufe p l a n t , is inoreafed by c u t t i n g s , and thrives in a f a n d y l o am w i t h a fmall p o r t i o n of fandy
peat e a r t h . Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
