T H E firft plants which were feen of this plant in England, were raifed from feeds, at the Royal Gardens,
Kew, in 1788. It is a bandfome growing ihrub, and t h e plant from which our figure was made
had grown to t h e height of feven f e e t ; it having been planted in the confervatory of the Clapham
collection, w h e r e it flowered, for t h e firft time, this year, in J u l y , c o n t i n u i n g in high beauty near two
months. It is a plant of mofi difficult increafe, rarely t h a t it is to be propagated by c u t t i n g s ; and
t h e wood rots, if laid into t h e earth. A light foil, of fandy peat, and a final! portion of fandy Joam
appears mofi congenial to its g r o w t h . There are hopes, from the p e r f e ñ Hate of the cones, that r i pé
feeds may be procured in this country.
