Ixia foliis enliformibus, glabris, fcapo duplo Ixia with fword-fhaped leaves, fmooth, twice as
b r e v i o r i b u s ; floribus alternis, fub-fpicatis, fliort as t h e flower-ftem; flowers alternate,
minoribus, p u r p u r é i s ; petalis bafi obfcuris, rather fpiked, imaller, and purple; petals
ovatis, concavis; ftigmatibus bifidis. dark at the bafe, egg-tbaped, concave;
fummits two-cleft.

T H I S variety of Ixia bloflbms about J u n e ; and, like the reft of this fpecies, continues in flower near a
month. It is o n e of the hardieft, and certainett blowers, amongst the whole genus, and propagates
freely; no particular treatment is necefiary for i t , but w h a t has been often repeated for the management
of thefe plants.
