t h r o w n thefe plants to M o r a a . At firft fight we did not t h i n k this p l a n t poffeffed of fufficient
diftinflive character to be treated as a different fpecies from the F. u n d u l a t a ; but upon clofer
i n f p e a i o n found it to v a r y nearly in every part ; in t h e l h a p e of the flower, the leaves and t h e root.
T h e lingular character of this, and the o t h e r Cape Ferrarías, of m a k i n g b u t one g r o w t h in two, and
fometimes three y e a r s ; is h a r d l y t o be traced in a n y other plants, b u t eonflantly fo in thefe. They
produce their flowers about J u l y , t h e feafon of t h e i r flowering; the flowers are as tranfitory as thofe
of t h e F . p a v o n i a ; that is to fay, t h e d u r a t i o n of about fix hours. Our figure was t a k e n from a p l a nt
i n the H i b b e r t i a n Collection, w h i c h flowered in t h e m o n t h of J u l y 1802. T h e Ferrarías all propagate
by t h e r o o t ; and lhould be planted in fandy peat mixed w i t h a fmall portion of loam.
