Geodchla innotata, Blyth, J. A. S. Beng. xv. p. 370 (1846); Seebohm, Cat. Birds Brit. Mus. v.
p. 151 (1881).
G. pileo et pectore aurantiaco-castaneis : tectricibus alarum schistaceis, minime albo notatis : alis longioribus.
T he present species is an inhabitant of the Malayan Peninsula and Southern Tenasserim, and differs-
from its Indian ally, G. citrina, in having uniform wing-coverts, without the white tips which are a,
noticeable feature in the allied species. I regard it, however, as only a race of the latter, as the
two forms appear to intergrade in Tenasserim; and it should, in my opinion, be called Geodchla
dtrina innotata. It should be noted, however, that Mr. E. W. Oates considers G. innotata to be
quite distinct from G. dtrina (Faun. Brit. Ind., Birds, ii. p. 141).
Both these races of Orange-headed Ground-Thrush are slightly larger than the other species
of the same section, and have a wing of 4-4 to 4'8 inches.
G. dtrina, which I regard as the typical form, differs from G. andamanensis in having white
tips to the median wing-coverts, from G. aurata in having white under tail-coverts, and from
G. rubecula in being paler both on the upper and under surface. The Malayan G. innotata differs
from the two last-named species in having no white tips to the median wing-coverts. From
G. andamanensis it further differs in having a more richly-coloured chin and a less brightly coloured
belly. Both forms differ from G. albigularis and G. cyanonota in having no. white on the throat.
On the same Plate as G. dtrina I have figured an adult specimen of G. innotata from Malacca
in my own collection.
