TURDUS LAWRENCII {Cary).
LAWRENCE’S THRUSH.
Oichlherminia lawrencii, Cory, Auk, viii. p. 44 (1891); id. Cat. West Ind. B. p. 121 (1892).
T. similis T. herminieri, sed suprk rufescenti-brunneus et plumis gutturalibus rufescenti-brunneo, haud pallide
brunneo, marginatis.
Mr. C. B. Cory has described the Thrush from Montserrat as distinct from the allied species of
the neighbouring West Indian Islands.
He remarks as follows :—“ The Montserrat bird is intermediate in colour between
Oichlherminia dominicensis and C. herminieri. The feathers on the throat are edged with rufous-
brown, not pale brown as in C. herminieri. The back is reddish brown, not pale olive as in
0. herminieri or dark brown as in 0. dominicensis. The white arrow-shaped markings on the underparts
are larger and more regular.”
The following is the description given by Mr. Cory (I. c. ) :—“ Upper parts, wings, and tail dark
rufous-brown; throat reddish brown, the middle o f the feathers marked unevenly with brownish
white, edged with reddish brown. The feathers of the underparts are white, edged with brown,
showing large, white, arrow-shaped markings on the lower breast and belly; the feathers of the
under wings white, edged with brown; under surface of inner primaries showing pale rufous-brown
on the inner webs. Length 9*5 inches, wing 5-5, tail 3*75, tarsus 1*5, bill 0*95.”
I have not seen a specimen of this Thrush, and have therefore not been able to figure it in
the present work. L®1-
