T. similis T. flavirostri, sed prsepectore cineraceo, hypochondriis rufescenti-brunneis, interscapulio olivascenti-
brunneo, distinguendus.
T his is quite a distinct species from T. Jlavirostris, and represents that bird in the Tres Marias
Islands, off Western Mexico. Mr. Ridgway gives its characters as the dull greyish-fulvous flanks,
the light raw-umber-brown colour of the wing-coverts and scapulars, and the more greyish colour of the
back, the hind-neck being also scarcely different from the latter.
Grayson says that it is found on the Tres Marias in great numbers, and breeds there.
Adult male. Distinguished from the male of T. Jlavirostris by its ashy-grey chest, rufous-brown
sides, and pale orange-rufous axillaries and under wing-coverts ; the mantle is also olivaceous-
brown, more like that of the female of T. Jlavirostris. Total length 9 inches, culmen 0-95, wing 5'2,
tail 8-9, tarsus 1*8.
A du lt female. Similar to the male. Total length 8*5 inches, culmen 1*0, wing 5*15, .tail 4 0,.
tarsus 1*45.
The descriptions are taken from a pair obtained in the Tres Marias Islands by Mr. A. Forrer,
the male being in the Salvin-Godman Collection and the female in the Seebohm Collection. The
specimens figured are in the Seebohm Collection. [R. B. S.]
