TURDUS STORMSI, Eartl.
STOBMS’S THBUSH.
Turdus stormsi, Hartl. Bull. Mus. Belg. iv. p. 148, pi. in. (1886).
T. similis T. bocagii, sed subtus magis aurantiaco-rufescens, et subcaudalibas quoque aurantiacis, abdomine
concoloribus distinguendus.
Dr. Hartladb described this species Bom a specimen sent by Captain Storms from the neighbourhood
of Lake Tanganyika. Dr. Eeichenow believes that it is the young of T. bocagii, and that the type
specimen is immature is evident from the orange-bufl spots at the end of the wing-coverts. There
is no species, however, of the T. libonyanus group which has the under tail-coverts orange-coloured,
as is shown in Dr. Dubois’ picture of the type of T. stormsi (I. c,), or in Mr. Keulemans’ figure
which accompanies this article. It may be, therefore, that T. stormsi will prove to be a richly-
coloured forest race of T. bocagii, and as such I have kept it distinct.
The figure has been drawn by Mr. Keulemans from the type in the Brussels Museum.
