H IS Bird is of the Sr/c of a
Sparrow. Over the Eyre, the
Throat, and at the Vent under
thé Tail, are Spoots of red :
AU the relt of the Body "is fcntierly of a
deep purple-Colour. The Hen is all over-
brown, but has the like red Spots as’ the
Cock. Thefe Birds are Natives of many
of the Bahama Iflands.

TH I S is generally but a irhall Tree, Has a light
coloured fmooth bark. Its leaves are Winged,
the middle rib feven or eight inches long, with
pairs o ff'inn* one againft another on inch-long foot-
ilalks. The fruit hang in bunches; are fhaped like
ia Pear, of a pourple - Colour, covering an oblong
hard Stone.
From the trunc of this Tree diftils a liquid black
as Ink, which the Inhabitans fay is Poiibn. Birds
feed on the Berries, particularly this Grofs-beak on
the mucilage that covers the Stone. It grows ufual-
ly on Rocks in Brovidence, llathera and other of
the Bahama Iflands.

difpofées par paire, & attachées par des pédicules d'un
pouce, fu r des cotes de fept ou huit pouces de longueur:
Ses. fruits forment des Grappes- Ils ont la fièvre
. d’une Boire violete,-jiii renferme un noyau très-dur.
Du Tronc de • cet arbŸe il diftille une liqueur noire
comme de Vencre- Tes habit ans difent qu’elle eft
vénimeufe. Tes Qiféaux, furtcut le Gros-Bec,
fe nourriffent de f es fruits, c’eft-à-dire, de la pulpe
qui couvre le noyau. Cet arbre croift ordinairement
fur des Rochers à Îlfle de la Providence, à ceÜe ctlla-
thera, & plufteurs autres des Jfles Bahama,
