below which it is purple. The Hind-part of
the Neck is covered with changeable ihi-
ning green Feathers, edged with black. All
the reft of the Bird is of a dusky blew, the
Legs and Feet are red. They breed in
great Numbers on all the Bahama-lfiands,
and are of great advantage'to the Inhabitants,
particularly while young. They are ta-r
ken in great quantities from off the Rocks
o n which they breed. . . où ils font leurs nids.

r I 'HIS is a Shrub, which grows from Five to Ten Feet high
not with a fingle Trunc, but with .feveral fmall Stems
riling from the Ground, they growing many together in Thickets.
The Flowers grow ih Bunches, are fmall and white, with many
Stamina. They produce a Sbcceffion of Fruit moil part oi
the Summer, which is of the Size and Shape of a large Damafinj
moft of them blue: Some Trees produce pale yellow, and fome
red. Each Plumb contains a Stone fhaped jike a Pear,,chanulated
with fix Ridges. They grow ufiially in low •moift Ground near
the Sea-fide. The Leaves are aS broad as a Crown, thick*
ftiff, and ihaped fomewhat like a Heart. The Fruit is efteemed
wholefome, and hath a fweet lulcious Talie. The Spaniards
at Cuba make a Confer ve of them, by prcferVihg them in Sugar, •

/ y Eß un Buijfon qui croît depuis cinq jufques à dix pie's de
hauteur. I l pouffe plufieurs tiges à la fois, qui s'élèvent enfemble
& forment un Buijfon. Ses fleurs .viennent par bouquets. Elles
font blanches, petites, & ont plufleurs Etamines. I l produit prefque
tout i Eté des fruits qui fe fuccédent les uns aux autres■ Ils rejfem-
blent à une grojfe Prune de Damas, & font la plufpart bleus. Quelques
arbres en produifent de rouges j quelques autres en produi/ent
d’un Jdune pâle. Chaque Prune contient un noyau fa it en Poire,
avec fix canelures. Ils croijfent d'ordinaire dans un ferroir bas &
humide proche le bord de la Mer. Leurs feuilles font aujfi larges
qu'un Ecüÿ épaijfes & roidés.. Elles ont à peu-prés la figure et un
Coeur. On en croit le fruit trés-fain : fon goût efi doux& fa d e:
