T H I S fine v a r i e t y of t h e P r i c k l y - i t a l k e d G e r a n i u m , was i n t r o d u c e d , at t h e fame time w i t h t h e w h i te
v a r i e t y , by M r . F r a n c i s Mafibn, to t h e Royal Gardens, Kew, in t h e year 3 7 0 5 . It is a t e n d e r plant,
a n d r e q u i r e s t h e heat of the h o t - h o u f e , t h r o u g h the w i n t e r mouths to preferve it, being a n a t i v e of
t h a t part of Africa near the N a m a q u a ^ a n d , w h i c h is in raofi parts a b a r r e n , arid fand, extremely
hot and p a r c h e d , e x p e r i e n c i n g l i t t l e c h a n g e t h r o u g h t h e w h o l e year. The p r o p a g a t i o n is e i t h e r prod
u c e d by c u t t i n g s , or from the r o o t s , which are t u b e r o u s , in moft inftances, if the plant is kept in
