A B O U T the year 1 7 7 6 , t h i s plant was firft received in England, by Meftrs Lee and Kennedy from
Montreal, Canada, N . America- It is a native of all the northern parts of that country, as far as
N e w England; propagates itfelf by the root, and flowers in J u l y . It will not thrive but on a fhady
border which lhuuld be made of light fandy peat.
Much we revere the name, of Solandcr, and highly rate his merit as a Bo.anift; yet we cannot forbear
ftatin- our diflVnt from the arrangement of this plant, as a Dracaena, certainly nothing can be
•;, iifimilar in every p a r t , this may be eafily traced by comparing our figure and d.ftect.ons, as
I the Generic character. The whole natural habit of the plant, points out Conva.liana
fo its eenus to which it is much nearer allied than Dracaena, even in the fexual characters. How.
ever w! only date onr opinions, w i t h o u t even t h i n k i n g of change as t h e plant is known as Dracxna,

title.
