T H I S m o d beautiful variety, of the Columnar-chived Ixia, was introduced to us, from Holland, in
t h e year ¡799- It flowers about t h e b e g i n n i n g of J u n e , and continues in bloifom about three weeks.
T h e beautiful manner in w h i c h the colours of the flowers, of this variety, are blended, and which
appear to c h a n g e , as regarded from different points of view, is beyond the painter's I k i l l ; the beft
t h a t can be done is but a faint imitation. The roots of this p l a n t are rather more delicate than the
o t h e r varieties of this fpecies.
