T H I S fpecies of Hypoxis is from the Cape of Good H o p e ; and, we believe, folely rn the polTeflion
of G. Hibbert, Efq. Clapham; from whole collection our drawing was made, in J u n e , this year, 1 8 0 1 .
I t appears to be a hardy green-houfe plant; but, is certainly more curious than handfome, and, from
its general character, we fliorild j u d g e the propagation would be from the root.
Profeflbr .laequin has given the Hypoxis Obliqna in his Icone.s Plantarum Rariorum, 2. I. 3y 1 ; and
in his Supplement to the Collectanea, 5-1; but, we nmft fuppofe from a more vigorous fpecimeu than
o u r s ; as, t h e appearance of a woolly character, at the margin of the leaves, was not to be traced rn
our plant, although every other part is exact. Wherefore, we have retained his name, though we
have lejected t h e latter part of his fpecific character, to introduce one, which we coufider, of more
conlequence, as oppofed to thofe with bulbous roots, this being fibrous.
