T H E v a r i e t y h e r e given, was i n t r o d u c e d to E n g l a n d , w i t h die changeable-flowered variety, in 1 7 9 9 ,
f r om H o l l a n d . It is t h e ftrongeft marked variety of the fix we pofTefs; it flowers in May. The
p e t a l s of this v a r i e t y are r e m a r k a b l y t h i c k at the infertion i n t o the tube, and have a fott, beautiful
b r o w n on t h e outfide, when t h e flower is clofed, which frill is never fb fully fo, but a fmall margin
of the blue appears; which gives t h em a moft beautiful appearance in t h a t flate. No particular
r e g i m e is neceflary to this p l a n t , more t h a n w h a t is neceffary to all the common fpecies.
