A L T H O U G H this fpecies is not lcarce, yet, from the general method of treating it, that is, by giving
i t no more heat than has been found neceflary for the generality of Cape Ixias, few have feen its
blofi'oms though they polTefs the roots. To enfure their flowering, as foon as the bulbs are well
rooted which will be about J a n u a r y , if planted in October; they may be then put i n t o t h e h e a t of a
m e l o n ' o r cucumber frame, or taken into t h e hothoufe, where they will flower about the latter end of
Mav This Ixia was firft introduced, from Holland, about the year 1 7 7 8 , under the name of Ixia
K e i m o l i n a f p e c i o f a ; and, under t h a t title, is to be found, in moft collections; wherefore, confidenng
it a difUnct fpecies, having drawings of t w o varieties, we have continued the fpecific name of fpectofa.
