The varieties o f Papilio Oiythia are numerous, and feem to differ according to climate o f thc countries
o f which they are natives. I t is common in North America, Jamaica, India, See. The variety from N orth
America is almoft wholly brown, and thofe from Jamaica have lefs bine in the ditk o f the lower wings,
than thofe from China.
Papilio Clelia of Cramer, which is found on the coaft o f Guinea, has been fuppofed a variety o f Papilio
Orythia. Fabricius, in the Enumohgia Syfiematica, has made it a diftin a fpecies. It greatly refembles
P. Orythia, b u t has no more blue colour on the pofterior wings than is concentrated in ”i
large fpot near
the bafe.

The angulated form of the wings o f (his butterfly gives it a remarkable appearance. The eyes on the
wmgs fomewhat refemble thofe o f the Peacock butterfly, to which, in feme other refpefls, iI bears no
diftant fimihtude. I t is common in China; Fabricius gives its ItaVuat Afia.
