By means of this apparatus it is 'possible to show the difference between static and
dynamic equilibrium, where the position is'govorned by both gravitational and centrifugal
forces. The spinning ring gffisumes a dynamic equilibrium in the horizontal
plane, spinning about its axis. Other objects could have been suspended for spinning,
such as cones and cylinders, and some of those listed under Cat. 31 may have been
intended for this purpose.
