Pileus stipitatus aut latere affixus, subtus lamellis sporiferis, rectis, simplicibus.
Volva nulla.
Pileus furnished with a stipes, or fixed by its side ; bearing on the under
surface straight, simple, sporuliferous lamellæ. Volva none.

A garicus v irg in e u s ; “ candidas ; pileo tenui húmido, convexo, dein umbilicato,
lamellis decurrentibus, venoso-connexis, distantibus ; stipite fistuloso tenui,
deorsum attenuato."— F r i e s .
Ao. w h ite ; pileus thin, humid, convex, at length umbilicate; lamellæ decurrent,
connected by rugose veins, remote; stipes hollow, slender, attenuated
downwards.

H as. Pastures and heaths in the autumn, very common.
Whole plant white.^ Pileus 1-2 inches broad, at first convex, at length
umbilicate, or with the margin curved upwards, smooth, moist, firm,
yellowish in old age. Flesh thin, except in the centre, white. Lamellæ
decurrent, distant, rather thick, about four in a set. Stipe.<i about two
inches long, 2 -4 lines thick, white, smooth, firm, attenuated downwards,
mostly more or less hollow, b u t sometimes solid, nearly straight.

A g a ricu s virgineus agrees in so many points with some varieties
of A g . eburneus, that it is difficult to affix a satisfactory
