Volva nulla.
Pileus furnished with a stipes or fixed by its side, having on the under surface
straight, simple, sporuliferous lamell*. Volva none.

th e same base. Pileus one to n e a r th re e in ch e s in b re a d th , convex, at
le n g th n e a rly p lan e , u n d u la te d a t th e m a rg in , so little fieshy as to be
n e a r ly membrana ceous, y e t w ith a firm substance. Colour y e llow ish or
olivaceous b row n , v a ry in g in in ten s ity . Surface g lab ro u s, ru g o s e w ith
veins in th e d ire c tio n from th e c en tre to th e circum fe renc e, w h ic h veins,
w h e n exaimned, seem to be folds o f th e epidermis. Eamellw r a th e r n u me
ro u s, bro ad , ventricose, free, w h ite , a t le n g th b e com ing rose or flesh-
co lo u red from th e ro se -co lo u red sporules. Stipes 2-4 inches long, 2-5
lines th ic k , somewhat fistulöse, w h itish , m o stly tw isted , eq u al, except
a t th e base, w h ich is o ften th ick en ed , a n d f r e q u e n tly in cu rv ed .
