GENERIC CHARACTER.
“ Receptaculum carnoso-gelathmsum, homogeneum, undique fructficans, glabrum,
demum subdeliquescens. Papilloe nullæ. Contextus jloccosus, Jloccis assur-
gentibus quibus sporidia inierspersa.— Forma rotundata vel discÿbrmis, vix
marginata, subsesssilis, superficie varia.”—F r ie s .
Receptacle carnoso-gelatinous, homogeneous, fructifying in every p art, glabrous,
at length deliquescing. Papillae none. Substance filamentous,
the filaments somewhat erect, with sporidia interspersed.—Form roundish
or disciform, scarcely marginated, subsessile, the surface varying.

H as. On dead wood, posts, rails, &c. very frequent. The whole year, b u t
chiefly in th e spring.
Plants gregarious, distinct, or somewhat confluent from juxtaposition, sessile
or nearly so, one-tenth to one-sixth o f an inch in breadth, roundish,
globose or depressed, smooth, even, ra th e r firm when young, b u t becoming
exceedingly soft, and in age almost melting away, yielding to the
slightest touch. Colour fine yellow or orange. Substance similar throughout,
composed of a mass o f suberect filaments, which are branched and
articulated. Spondia dispersed everywhere among the filaments.
