Receptaculum 0. Penthecia cornea, libera, sessiles aut suhimmersa, sparsa vel
congesta, ore interdum elongato, aliquando n u lh ; intus massa gelatinosa spo-
rulifera instructa.
Receptacle 0. Perithecia corneous, free, sessile or somewhat immersed,
scattered or crowded, the mouth sometimes elongated, a t others wanting.
Interior filled with a gelatinous sporuliferous mass.

somewhat sh in in g a n d o f a w ax y ap p ea ran c e, a n d soft substance. Spo-
ridia ro u n d ish .
This species most commonly occurs on bare wood, as fallen
trees deprived of their bark, &c. There is a variety, however,
which occurs on dead Stromatosphærioe, in a more aggregated
form : this is of a roundish figure, and must not be confounded
with S. episphoeria.
