Gregarious, sessile, minute, about a line in diameter, roundish, somewhat
depressed, white or greyish, the outer peridium fragile and evanescent in
farinaceous particles; the inner one also fragile, grey, membranaceous.
Columella large, white, roundish. Sporules globose, dark-coloured, intermixed
with filaments.
Considerable uncertainty exists about the generic character
of Diderma. P e b s o o n described under it plants with a single
and with a double peridium; some of which have a columella,
others none. I f iN K , who has constituted several new and excellent
genera of minute Gastromyci, has referred to Diderma
such species as possess a double peridium and no columella;
while his Didymium (to which our plant belongs) is provided
ivith a columella in addition to the two peridia. As the species
now figured is of more frequent occurrence than any other one of
