GENERIC CHARACTER.
Thallus e Jilamentis decumhentibus implexis, ramosis, septatis. Spondia solitaria
cequaliter pedicellata.
Thallus composed of decumbent, entangled, branched and jointed filaments.
Sporidia solitary, on pedicels of equal length.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
A c r e m o n i u m fuscum; thallofusco-olivaceo; sporidiis globosis, alternatis.
A. thallus olive-brown; sporidia globose, alternate.

H ab. On dead wood and damp stems of large herbaceous plants when decayed.
Autumn. Near Edinburgh.
Thallus spreading, like a very fine w e b ; of an olivaceous colour. Filaments
remotely branched, much interwoven, jointed, pellucid. Spondia globose,
somewhat opaque, their pedicels arranged alternately.
W ith this, neither of the other two known species is likely
to be confounded; the thallus in both being of a white colour.
A s a genus, Acremonium is well defined; and as a microscopical
object, it is far from being the least interesting of the
Order to which it belongs.
