G EN E R IC CHARACTER.
Peridia flocciformia, subdiaphana, varia, subsimplicia,. aggregato-coespitosa, fo liis
vivis parasitica. Sporulce minutissimæ, sæpissime nullæ.
Peridia flocciform, subdiaphanous, various, subsimple, aggregato-cæspitose,
parasitic on living leaves. Sporules most minute, very frequently invisible.

E rineum Padi ; hypophyllum, effusum, dense aggregatum, superficiale, prima
albidum, demum aurantiacum umhrinumque ; peridiis clavatis subramosis vel
tuberculatis, apice subtruncato.
E. on the under surface of the leaf, efiused, densely crowded, superficial,
a t first white, b u t changing to orange colour and dark brown ; peridia
club-shaped, somewhat branched or turberculated, the apex usually
more or less truncate,

H ab. On the leaves of Prunus Padus, Summer and Autumn. Woods in
the Highlands, about Aviemore, and elsewhere.—I t has been found in
England, near Twizel House, by P rideaux J ohn S elby, Esq. and by
myself in the grounds o f Morton J ohn D avison, Esq. of Beamish, near
Newcastle.
Plant effused, in distinct roundish patches, or confluent, not immersed in
the leaf in the slightest degree, whitish when young, changing gradually
to orange, reddish-brown, and lastly very rich deep brown. Peridia
polymorphous, rarely simple, b u t for the most p a rt terminated b y
several short, obtuse processes ; the main summit is often truncate.
A fine species, intermediate between tbose with simple,
and those with branched peridia, exactly analogous to tbe situation
of Clavaria rugosa.
