T he W hite-winged Crossbill was first described by
Dr. Latham in the third volume of his General Synopsis,
page 108, b u t without bestowing upon - it, at that time,; any
systematic name: the specimens-were received trom North
America ; like the two Crossbills already described,| tfes
third species has occurred in considerable numbers in some

The localities in which this species has appeared in Eu-
ropkhave been thus primarily noticed,1 to show the probability
