on the seeds of the ray. Calyx-scales in 2
rows, equal, longer than the disk.
Spec. Char. Leaves cordate, toothed, radical and
lower stem-leaves on naked stalks ; intermediate
on winged stalks with stem-clasping auricles;
upper sessile, clasping the stem.

T H E Herbarium of Linnaeus proves this to be his D.
Pardalianches, and it can scarcely be doubted that the synonyms
quoted above from Smith belong to it, although another
plant (except the root-leaf, which was added by him to
the drawing) is figured in English Botany. Whatever may be
thought of some of its British stations, Mr. D. Don assures
us the species is truly a native of many moist woods on a
clay soil in Forfarshire and Fileshire. His father too, who
