Dr. Richardson.—Mr. Pursh says the JB. suaveolens, Ait., is only the male of this species. The inflorescence
is widely different from that of any other of the genus.

persistentes, virides, non raro unciam longse, petiolo subseque longse. Pedunculus subterminalis, sed fere
semper e basi rami annotini, et ita lateralis, racemosus. Racemus oblongus, 10-12-florus, floribus inferiori-
bus subinterruptis, pedicellis brevibus, sericeis. Bractece obovatse, longitudine fere calycis. Calyx oblongo-
campanulatus, sericeus, 5-fidus, seu potius 4-fidus, segmentis subsequalibus, superiore bifido. Corolla flava.
Vexilium obovatum, obtusum, primum lateribus inflexis demum snbreflexis. Alee ■ obtusa, longitudine
vexilli et carina obtusa. Stamina 10, libera, membranacea. Antherce omnes fertiles, subrotunda. Germen
lineare, rectiusculum, dense sericeum. Stylus sursum curvatus, carina vix longior. Stigma obtusum. ■ legumen
valde falcatum, fere digitale, compresso-planum, marginatum hie illic constrictum, 3—6-spermum, stylo
persistente acuminatissimum.
Hab. About the Saskatchawan. Dr. Richardson; Douglas; Drummond.—In general aspect, this bears
a great resemblance to the Sophora alpina of Pallas; but there the leaflets are much narrower, and the
stipules teraate.

vallies of the Blue Mountains in North-West America. Douglas.—My specimen under this name from. Mr.
Douglas, has the leaves thrice as large, and the peduncles thrice as long as in the preceding species.
