not in a very good state, hut sufficient to show that, though naturally allied to (E. Booth«, cmtorta, and

gerrima, glabra. Flores numerosi, minimi. Calyx infundibuliformis, tubo lacinias ajquante. Petala vix
lmeam longa calycis tubum ajquantia. Genitalia—? Capsules cylindrical elongate,- pollicares et ultra,
torulosa, contorto-curvate, Epilobii capsulis simillima. Semina ovata, angulata.
H ab. Sandy barren soil, on the interior banks of the Columbia River. Douglas.—Although the stamens
and pistils in our specimens of (E. contorta and (E.pygnuea, are too imperfect to allow of our determining
exactly their form, yet the habit of these plants convinces us that they should be ranged in this section.
