examples from Tipper E g y p t; and Air. J . C. Bcsly lias also forwarded an example from
Suez, b u t th e la tte r proved to be tb e tru e C. riparia.
T he exact ran g e of th e species is a t p resent not doiined. We believe, in fact, that
many of the records a ttrib u te d to Cotile minor really belong to C. shelleiji, as, for instance,
when Baron von Ile u g lin states th a t th e former speeies “ breeds in E g y p t,” and is
“ common in Centi*al E g y p t along tbe Avholc of th e N ile,” Ave fancy tlia t he lias confused
the tAA-o species together. We have endeavoured to s I ioav the ranges o f both, as a t
p resen t ascertained, in th e maps of geographical distribution.
The description is tak en from tb e ty p e specimen in tb e Slielley Collection. No Plate
has been attempted, as th e colours of th e species a re so similar to those of C. riparia as
to render a figure unnecessaiy.
l ’or the geographical distrib u tio n of this species, vide infrà, Plate 30 [AIai>].
