an Americ an form.
Mr. Darwin m et with th is Swallow iu Southern Patag o n ia , a t P o rt Eamino in
Eehruary, an d found it breeding in holes in a cliff of earth. Dr. Cnn n in g h am procured
specimens a t Sandy P o in t in J a n u a ry , and in tlie same montii and a t tho same place
th e n a tu ra lis ts on hoard tho ‘ Challengor ’ likewise mot with it.
Tliis species p robably winters in C h ili; fo r J l r . Darwin found it n e a r Valparaiso
from A u g u s t to September, and Capt. M ark h am a t Coquimbo in November. Mr. E C
lie e d h as sen t several specimens from the province o f Colchagua. A Bolivian specimen,
procured hy Mr. Bridges, and preserved in tho Sclater collection, m ark s th e highest
n o rth e rn ran g e of tliis species, so fa r as is knowu a t jiresent.
