 G e n .   Ch a r .  Frond  cylindrical  or  c o m p r e s s e d ,   horny, mucli branched,  its  
 substance  composed  of  densely  packed  filaments,  of  which th e   innermost  
 are  longitudinal,  th e   middle  curving  outwards,  and  th e   external  
 stratum  (or  periphery)  horizontal  and  moniliform.  Fructification,  
 naked warts  entirely  composed  of  bead-like  strings  of  cruciate  te tra spores.
