 upon  it.  The  greater  number  of  cells  in  the  breadth  of  the  
 frond,  and the  presence  of  occasional  short  ramuli,  would  seem  
 to  be  the  characters  by  which E. Balfsii  is  to  be  known  from  
 the  true B. percursa.  I  have  no  opportunity  at  present  (I write  
 these  lines  on  the  shores  of  America)  of  examining  other  specimens, 
   of  consulting  herbaria,  or  of  communicating  with  more  
 experienced botanists,  and  must  consequently  defer  till  a  future  
 time  entering  more  fully  into  the  distinctive  characters  of  the  
 species  now proposed.
