The Skull of Dauphin à ventre roux, in the Paris Museum,
belongs to this species. T h e nose is very slender,
attenuated. P alatal bone and intermaxillaries distinctly
seen below ; intermaxillaries very convex, dense ; lower
jaw very compressed in fro n t; p ala te fiat, ra th e r convex
on each side behind, very spongy. I t came from Molucca.
The skull in the P aris Museum marked D. plumbeus, Malabar,
Dussumier, also belongs to this species; it measures as
 follows:—Length, 22-0, beak, 13’6, teeth-line, 12-0,width at
 notch, 4'44, symphysis o f thelower jaw, 5" 6 '", teeth, 4 4 -4f,
large ; beak, elongated, higher than wide, compressed in
front; triangle extending ra th e r before the teeth-lines. There
is, in the Anatomical Museum o f the J a rd in des Plantes,
also a skull of a foetal specimen o f this species, from
Malabar, which is 12 inches long, with the beak 8 inches
 4 lines long, and 2 5 wide a t the notch. T h e bones are
not united, the u pper teeth are 36, they are as large as
those o f the ad u lt skull, and all inclosed in a cartilage,
and very close together. From this skull it is evident th at
these animals are bora with th e full number o f teeth,
which only elongate as they gradually develope. The
symphysis o f the lower jaw is 2" &" long.
