This fpecies o f Papilio was firft met w ith in Otah e ite a t th e time th a t ifland was difcovered by Capt.
Cook, and received a name in compliment to the late Dr. Solander, one o f the diftingtiiflied naturalifts
who failed with th a t able circumnavigator in his expedition round the world. Fabricius is the only writer
by whom this fpecies is mentioned, w ith the exception o f Gmelin, who ftaiids indebted to Fabricius for
his desc ription.
