Both fcxes o f this beautiful k in d o f Butterfly are exhibited in this plate to shew th e ftriking difference
th a t prevails in th e upper furface o f them, one being almoft perfeftly w h ite with only th e tips black, the
o ther entirely black, w ith the exception o f th e diik, which is o f a fine, but deep grey. T h e un d er furfaces
are alike in both. T h e female, as ufual, w ith the Papilio tribe is large r than the male. This is a native
o f N ew Holland, where it was firft difcovered by Sir Jofeph Banks. Fabricius defcribes it from the
Bankfian cabinet.
