T his charming in feft poiTefles an appearance moft peculiarly diftinft from every other fpecies o f the
Papilio tribe, with th e folitary exception o f Papilio N ig rin a , to which it may be thought to bear fome
remote refemblance. I t is fcarcely poflible for th e ableft pencil to imita te th e rich and beautiful fpecklings
with which th e lower furface o f this in feft is ornamented, pervading the whole furface, as it appears
on clofe infpeftion, like an uniform fprinkling o f the fineft powder.
Papilio Plarpalyce ranks among th e more recent difcoveries in th e entomological produftions o f N ew
Holland, and feems from all that we can learn to be a rare fpecies. W e can have no doubt o f its being
an undefcribed infeft.
