T h e metallic fplendor o f this lovely in fe ft, and its analogous fpecies Imperialis, is ailoniiliingly fine.
Regalis is efpecially, i f poflible, more pre-eminently beautiful in this relpedl th an the o th e r; fo much
indeed on this occafion, more than on the former, we may truly re g re t the feeble powers o f th e pencil,
which afford us no fuch a decided tone o f colouring as is likely to imprefs tiie mind with a true conception
o f the original. I t is as refplendent as a raafs o f polilhcd gold, and is, befides, very richly gloffed with
a variety o f prifmatic hues.
Both the fpecies, Imperialis and Regalis, as above obferved, were difcovered by Sir Jofeph Banks in
New Holland, and are defcribed by Fabricius from the fpecimens in th e Bankfian cabinet. A t this period
we are acquainted with only two other infefts o f this fpecits in th e Entomological cabinets o f this count
ry ; one o f which, formerly in the colleftion o f the late Mr. Drury, is now in our own poffeffion, and
the other in tlie cabinet o f M r, Francillon.
