Wings indented, fufcous: on th e anterior wings a teflaceous band and two eye s; on the pofterior pair a
eye above and two beneath.

T h ere are few infefts more ftriking in appearance th an Papilio Abeona. This appears to be one o f
th e more common fpecies o f th e Butterfly tribe in many parts o f th e Auftralafian re g io n s : we receive it
in this country not very unfrequently among other infefts from th e vicinity o f th e Englifli fettlements at
P o rt Jackfon.
I t excites fome furprife with us, th a t although a painting o f this fine infeft exifted among th e drawings
o f o u r worthy friend William Jones, Efq. o f Clielfea, a t the time Fabricius was in this country, he fliould
either by accident or defign have omitted mentioning it, fince he had an unreferved accefs to thofe
drawings, and was indebted folely to them for his defcriptions o f nearly all the new fpecies o f th e Papilio
Genus included in his Species Infectorum and Entomologia Syfiematica. T h e fpecies therefore has
hitherto remained undefcribed, and with o u t a name.

fécond two, o f which the anterior one is fmaller.
