In the distribution of the colors of the plumage, the sexes are alike, with the slight
exception, that the throat of the female is not so black, and the general color not
quite as brilliant as that of the male.
Although less rare in collections than either of its relatives named above, the
Red-Breasted Pitta is by no means a common species, not many cabinets possessing
more than three or four examples.
The plate represents the two sexes of the natural size, and the beautiful air-plant
hanging from the tree is the Cattleya Marginata.
