A BE E LE , M. Van, perhaps th e father of Pe ter Van Abeele. (See
th e following.) His initials occur on a small medal commemorating the
ba ttle of Nieuport in 1600.-—i. 177.
A BE E LE , Peter Van, lived a t Amsterdam, his worts dating from
1622 to 1677. He was a p upil of Je rian Pool, and executed medals for
William I I . and I I I . of Orange, Oustavus Adolphus of Sweden, and
others. His medals, like those of 0 . Müller, are embossed and chased,
th e two sides being united by a rim. Died circ. 1677.—i. 393,402,417,
418, 450, 455, 456, 471, 472, 526, 527, 533, 534, 563, 564.
ACHESON, John, engraver to th e Mint of Scotland during the reign
of Mary, for whom he executed dies for coins. (See No. 4, Vol. I. p. 65.)
His dates are not known.—i. 65.
ADOLFSZOON, Christopher, a Dutch medallist who worked during
the second h a lf of th e seventeenth century (1666-1676), is best known
by his medal of Michael De Ruyter (No. 169, Vol. I. p. 522), for which
he is said to have received a thousand ducats. There are only four
medals which hear his signature.—i. 518, 522, 528, 535.
A. M., initials of an a rtist (P) which occur on a medal of Charles
Louis, Elector Palatine. (See No. 183, Vol. I. p. 338.) I t is very doubtful
whether these are the a rtist’s initials, as th e medal is generally su p posed
to be the work of Thomas Rawlins.—i. 338.
A N D E LE S, Andele, horn a t Leeuwarden, 29 June, 1687, died in th a t
city, 20 March, 1754. His works are very scarce, there being only two
jetons and one medal, which bear his initials.—ii. 505.
AN D E LE S, Eise, nephew and pnpil of the preceding, born a t Leeuwarden,
12 March, 1731, died about 1766. His works are few and consist
chiefly of medals of th e House of Orange.—ii. 693.
ANERT, Christian Sigmund, a counter-maker, who lived a t Nuremberg,
and worked during the first h a lf of the last century.—ii. 485.
